Deploy in 3 minutes.
One admin upload via Microsoft 365 admin centre. Every Outlook user in your tenant gets the ribbon button automatically. Future updates flow in without further action.
What you'll need
- Microsoft 365 Global Admin (or Apps Admin) role on your tenant.
- A web browser signed in to that admin account.
That's it. No software install, no certificate on your side, no DNS
change. CargoCube is fully hosted at cargocube.ai.
Step 1 · Open the M365 admin centre
Sign in at admin.microsoft.com with your Global Admin account.
Step 2 · Go to Integrated apps
Left nav → Settings → Integrated apps (direct link).
Step 3 · Upload custom apps
Click Upload custom apps (top of the page).
- App type: Office Add-in
- Manifest provider: select "Provide link to manifest file" — using a URL enables automatic future updates.
- URL:
https://app.cargocube.ai/manifest.xml
Click Validate. Expect a green tick.
Step 4 · Choose who gets the add-in
- Entire organization — every Outlook user, or
- Specific users / groups — recommended: deploy to your
operations team distribution group (e.g.
ops-team@yourdomain).
Step 5 · Accept permissions
Permissions requested: ReadWriteMailbox + Mailbox access. Required because CargoCube reads each email to detect shipment numbers and writes drafted replies. No data leaves your eAdaptor pipeline.
Step 6 · Deploy
Click Finish deployment → Done. Users see the CargoCube ribbon button in Outlook within 6–24 hours (minutes for Outlook on the web; up to a day for Outlook desktop on first cold cache).
After deployment
Each user, first time:
- Open any email in Outlook.
- Click the CargoCube ribbon button.
- Enter the API key (tenant-specific, provided separately by the CargoCube admin).
- Done. The key is remembered across all emails, sessions, and devices.
Going forward:
- All future code/UI updates ship automatically when the user re-opens the task pane. Zero IT action.
- Manifest updates (rare — only display name, icon, new permissions) are auto-picked up by M365 within 24 hours because you deployed via URL.
- Users do not need to re-add the add-in.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| "Manifest URL not reachable" during Step 3 | Open the manifest URL in your browser — it should download an XML file. If yes, retry; M365 sometimes fails the first probe. |
| Add-in button doesn't appear after 24 hours | User logs out of Outlook on the web and back in. Outlook desktop: File → Office Account → Update Options → Update Now. |
| "Sign in required" / "API key invalid" | Wrong API key or wrong email domain. Check with your CargoCube contact. |
| "Add-in installation failed" in M365 |
The URL must be HTTPS with a valid public cert —
https://app.cargocube.ai/manifest.xml is. Retry in a
fresh browser tab.
